WEB EDITING & COMMUNICATIONS

The internship requires an energetic and enthusiastic person to work with the existing CSD team.

During your internship you will be responsible for maximising the Society’s website and its efficient running.

Responsibilities:
Sourcing and advising on relevant content for various specialist sections
Exploiting e-commerce opportunities
Compiling relevant news items and producing daily listings
Managing event listing content
Sourcing images and applying them to the site
Develop, distribute and manage e-communications and e-services for members
Work alongside the external developers on new functionality
Coordinate the website content with other social media
Develop a social media strategy to drive traffic and raise the Society’s profile

Skills required:
Good editorial judgment
Ability to research and source relevant content
Excellent writing, grammatical skills and proofreading ability
Able to develop and produce high quality written material to suit varying audiences
Excel, CMS, Photoshop, HTML would be useful.

Profile:

You will have acquired a good English or Language degree and have an interest in media and/or design. The role will suit someone who is seeking a career in communications and who will take advantage of opportunities this internship provides.

EVENT ORGANISATION

Responsibilities:
Identifying possible events and preparing proposals
Identifying relevant training events for the Society's training programme
Assisting in the implementation and management of events
Assisting in the organisation of regional events
Organising online events
Co-ordinate a diary of events and meetings
Assist in identifying and managing collaborative events
Liaise with the communications function to promote events
Provide details about events for inclusion on the Society's website

Skills required:
Good multi-tasking and management skills
Ability to research the market for events and training
Excellent writing, grammatical skills and proofreading ability
Good interpersonal skills
Excel, Word, Photoshop, and dbase skills would be useful

Profile:

You will have acquired a good degree in management or similar discipline and have an interest in event management. The role will suit someone who is seeking a career in event management or hospitality and who will take advantage of opportunities this internship provides.

Lobbying Policy Affairs Intern at the European Parkinson’s Disease Association Location: London DL: 15 June 2011

The European Parkinson’s Disease Association (EPDA) is the only European umbrella organisation for Parkinson’s disease. It represents 45 member organisations and is the advocate for the rights and needs of over 1.2 million people1 with Parkinson’s and their families. Our vision is to enable a full life with Parkinson’s whilst supporting the search for a cure. The EPDA seeks to achieve this by raising awareness and reducing inequalities in the treatment and management of Parkinson’s disease across Europe.
Requirements:
To appoint a Special Projects intern whose role would be to support the EPDA Political Affairs and Policy officer advocacy work at EU level. The Special Projects Intern would report to the EPDA Secretary General who would manage their day-to-day working and support them in their activities.
Accountability/ Responsibilities:
To support the implementation of the EPDA's political affairs and policy campaign
To research funding opportunities and complete grant applications on behalf of the EPDA.
General duties:
To monitor EU developments, policies and actions that may have an impact on the EPDA and its member organisations, and people living with Parkinson’s.
Candidate requirements:
Graduate in European affairs/ Political Sciences/ Environmental Studies
Previous traineeship in a European institution preferred
Good understanding of the EU decision making process
Understanding of health issues
Fluent in English, other languages are an asset
Strong computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
Strong organisational skills
Self-motivated with an ability to work in isolation as part of a small, busy team
Strong oral and written communication skills
Sound research skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail.
Conditions:
As per Belgian legislation, a monthly reimbursement for expenses will be paid on a standard basis
A professional immersion convention will be offered to the successful candidate

Trainee programme at the European Medicines Agency Location: London DL: 15 June 2011

The European Medicines Agency operates a trainee programme. The programme gives trainees an understanding of the Agency and its role within the activities of the European Union and provides professional experience in a working environment. There is one traineeship intake per year starting in October. Earlier or later start dates are not possible. Placements are for a period of six months up to a maximum of nine months. The programme is aimed mainly at young university graduates, without excluding those who - in the framework of lifelong learning - have recently obtained a university diploma and are at the beginning of a new professional career.
Successful candidates will typically have a background relating to the activities of the Agency, i.e. pharmacy, medicine, life sciences, healthcare, chemistry or information technologies. Recently qualified lawyers with an interest in pharmaceutical regulatory affairs and recently qualified candidates with an interest in human resources / budget / accounts are welcomed as well. Candidates with a background in communications, public relations  or the web as well as people with a background in Library and Information Science can also apply.
Trainees are selected from nationals of the Member States of the European Economic Area (the Member States of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and from candidate countries benefiting from a pre-accession strategy.
Interested candidates should download the application form and use the "submit by email" function at the top of the form. The Agency receives around 400 traineeship applications per year of which around 40 candidates are offered a placement. As a result, the Agency is not in a position to reply to unsuccessful candidates. Candidates who are not contacted can assume they have not been chosen. Crises have been common in the history of Central and Eastern Europe. The
term crisis implies that a particular order, whether financial, social or
political is thrown into a state of flux. The resultant instability
usually forces those affected to react to the disturbance and reassert a
sense of equilibrium. By unravelling the operation of social and political
mechanisms that are normally taken for granted, crises give rise to a
number of questions: Were crises preceded by a generally accepted order?
How did individuals confronted with a crisis react to the new state of
affairs? Were their attempts successful or has instability remained?
This conference examines the concept of crisis from a plethora of
disciplinary angles within the Central and Eastern European context. It
offers a platform for discussing a complex set of interactions,
interruptions and continuities that various forms of crises provoke.
The conference invites postgraduate students and early career researchers
in the Humanities and Social Sciences to take part in an interdisciplinary
debate about the nature, meaning, causes and results of crises in Central
and Eastern Europe, including South-East Europe, Russia and the countries
of the former USSR. The disciplines include, but are not limited to,
anthropology, art history, cultural and literary studies, economics,
geography, history (medieval to modern), linguistics, politics and
sociology. We particularly encourage comparative and multidisciplinary
perspectives, as well as proposals using new research methodologies.
We look forward to receiving submissions on topics including but not
limited to the following areas:
• financial and economic crises;
• social crises, gender and sexuality struggles, crises of memory and
identity, crises of
values, crisis of political activism;
• environmental and energy crises;
• existential crises, crises of the subject, philosophical, religious and
confessional crises;
• representation of crises in literature, film and drama
• institutional, political and security crises, crises of regime,
succession and legitimacy, crises of empire;
• urban crises, rural and agrarian crises.
Paper abstracts of up to 300 words and a brief biography should be sent
with full contact details (E-mail, Telephone, Postal Address) to
postgradconference2012@gmail.com. Paper presentations should not exceed
twenty minutes. The language of the conference is English. A selection of
papers will appear in a separate Conference publication.
