Osteuropa-Institut und Südost-Institut
im Wissenschaftszentrum Ost- und Südosteuropa Regensburg
The Joint OEI/SOI Visiting Researcher Program
The Osteuropa-Institut Regensburg (OEI, Institute for East European Studies, http://www.osteuropa-institut.de/en) is a research centre for regional studies focussing on East European countries and the successor states of the Soviet Union in a global and comparative perspective. The Südost-Institut Regensburg (SOI, Institute for Southeast European Studies, http://www.suedost-institut.de/en) focuses on research into the history and current affairs of Southeast Europe. Both institutes, with departments of Economics and History and a joint comprehensive specialised library, are closely linked to the University of Regensburg. They are engaged in independent, non-profit research and policy advice both within Germany and internationally. Main research themes are the region's historical, social and economic specificities, transformation processes, the identification of correlated problems and the search for feasible solutions.
In their Joint Visiting Researcher Program the institutes invite applications from economists, historians and scientists from related fields who have completed their PhD studies. Research stays typically extend from two to six weeks. Visiting Researchers are expected to conduct research based on a mutually agreed plan. Research results stemming from the stay will be included in internal series but may be published elsewhere as well. Visiting researchers give at least one presentation in our seminar meetings and are encouraged to interact with our staff to prepare common research projects and proposals.
The institutes together with the University of Regensburg provide an attractive environment. The city of Regensburg is a charming location in Bavaria, registered at the UNESCO World Heritage List. Remuneration for Visiting Researchers is commensurate with their research experience.
For our 2012 Visiting Researcher Program, please send your application package by August 31, 2011, including:
• a brief research proposal (no more than three pages) in English or German
• a CV detailing the academic and research background with the names of two referees
• copies of no more than three earlier (published or unpublished) papers selected by the applicant
